Youth altruism is a synthesis of cognitive development, social learning, and evolutionarily determined mechanisms of cooperation. 1. Neurobiological Premises: The "Hot" Brain and Social Hyper-sensitivity The adolescent and young adult brain undergoes a critical period of reorganization, especially in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) — the area responsible for impulse control, planning, and risk assessment.
