New Year as a collective Cinderella tale
Cinderella and New Year: An Archetypal Tale in the Context of the Winter Holiday The cultural code of Cinderella, established by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm, has long been a subject of study for folklorists, psychologists, and cultural anthropologists. Cinderella is its ideal personification. Her journey from soot by the hearth to the brilliance of the ball gown is a direct metaphor for the New Year's "shedding of the old skin."
