The stereotype of "Jewish intelligence" is one of the most persistent in world culture. From Nobel laureates to the heroes of jokes, from literary characters to scientific studies — the notion that Jews are, on average, smarter than other nations has existed for centuries. But how true is this? And if it is true — why? This article examines the scientific, historical, social, and cultural factors that may have contributed to this phenomenon. 1. What Do the Statistics Say? Jews and Nobel PrizesBefore discussing causes, it is worth establishing the facts. Jews make up about 0.2% of the world's population (approximately 15–16 million people). Yet they have received: More than 20% of all Nobel Prizes since their inception. In the Economics category — about 40% of prizes. In Physics, Chemistry, and Medicine — between 20% and 30%. Among the outstanding minds of the 20th and 21st centuries of Jewish descent are: Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Karl Marx, Émile Durkheim, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Richard Feynman, John von Neumann, Noam Chomsky, and many others. However, it is important to understand: statistics do not prove innate superiority. They merely record the fact of disproportionately high representation of Jews among intellectual elites.
