In the context of the formation of a new model for the development of the world economy, transport is an instrument for realizing national interests and ensuring Russia's entry into the world economy as a full-fledged partner. The Center for Energy and Transport Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (CETI), approved in 2010, conducts coordinating work within the Institute-wide Problem Group on Transport, which includes representatives of several departments and centers of the Institute. Work on this issue is mainly carried out in the following areas: economic problems of transport development in individual Asian countries; transport integration of the SCO member states.
The first significant printed works, which were written by all employees of the group, a number of employees from other departments of the Institute of Transport of the Russian Academy of Sciences and departments, institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, were collections of reports based on the materials of the "round table" held by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation and the Eurasian Transport Union (of which the Institute of Transport of the Russian Academy of Sciences became a member in 2005) (Bulletin of the Eurasian Transport Union Issue 1-2, Moscow, 2005. The latest collection includes reports of the ninth International Economic Forum "Economy and a Decent Life", held in St. Petersburg in 2001.
