Dear editors, I was motivated to write this letter by the generosity shown by people who wear shoulder straps. You know how difficult life is right now. In our village, many people are out of work: they are engaged in seasonal harvesting of berries, mushrooms, and fishing. The military personnel of the nearby military unit are also not in the best position. Delayed wages, interruptions in the supply of food and medicine - all this has become a bitter omen of today. I know this for a fact, since my husband is an ensign. But despite all the current problems, the unit where my husband serves has sheltered twelve street children. In the short biography of each boy there is theft, drug addiction, vagrancy, and hunger. The commander of the unit, Colonel A. Valov, who knows firsthand what a hungry childhood is, did everything in his power to make the children feel like a kind, friendly family among the soldiers. In the brigade workshop, they were sewn military uniforms, given toilet accessories, put in order their appearance and determined on the full boiler allowance. But most importantly, they were forced to study... Soldiers who have students behind them are regularly interested in the students ' grades and help them prepare lessons. But in the village school, new students were treated cautiously, and some parents of schoolchildren were directly hostile. The motivation is the same: the police should deal with street children, not teachers. But I can list dozens of cases when the police, even in the prosperous times when our society was building socialism, could not do anything about hooligans. And such precinct officers as Uncle Styopa the giant were extremely rare... This means that it is necessary to fight crime not only by force, which, of course, is necessary, but to a certain extent. We must not forget that children are the future of the country. And they should be brought up strictly, but with tact and respect.Unfortunately, many teenagers do not have parents, and most children live in families where fathers and mothers drink, beat their children, and drink household property. What kind of parenting can we talk about here? And what do you want me to do in this case? In my opinion, the command of the unit turned out to be not only more humane, but also much wiser and far-sighted than the same school directorate. After all, it has long been known that a society that fails to protect its elderly and children is ultimately doomed to degeneration.
Of course, it is very easy to send children back to the shelter or kick them out on the street. After all, there is no such law: to give street children to the military for upbringing. Although, perhaps, today this is the only way out for several thousand street children. And it is very good that in our difficult time, the army, despite the problems experienced, has not lost its ability to help. So, all is not lost, so there is still hope that the " invincible and legendary "will not lose its best traditions in the future.
