Day of Remembrance of the Holy Archangels Simeon and John
Simeon and John: Two Paths to One Silence July twenty-first. In the Orthodox calendar, the day of remembrance of two holy ascetics, whose names are rarely mentioned together, but whose destinies are surprisingly intertwined. Saint Simeon, the Fool for Christ, and Saint John, the ascetic, lived in different eras, but united by one goal — the salvation of the soul through overcoming oneself. Simeon learned to see himself through the eyes of God, not the crowd. And it is this ability that makes him so close to our time, when we are all obsessed with our image and status. Saint John: Silence That Spoke Louder Than Words John lived later — in the 8th century, but also in the East. His life was the complete opposite of Simeon. He sought solitude, silence, and hiding from the world in the desert. He spent years in seclusion, eating only bread and water, dedicating days a ... Read more
